The only TWO Specialties, RBC and CBC, is called as general contractor, or builders.  You should have this Specialty when you pulling the building permit to counties, or cities.  Only RBC and CBC can handle structural members of building, addition and new constructions.

2. CBC online: total 5 class days (15 hours) – start from late April.     Please refer to  VA BLD (CBC) Technical Exam prep

   RBC Course Fee: now $695  (the fee includes 3 major required textbooks to pass the PSI test.  No additional charge until you pass the exam based on our Guarantee policy good for 2 months after the course completion date).

   Please expect to visit 2-3 more evenings to your optional review PSI exam questions.

To be LICENSED as Virginia RBC (Residential Building Contractor), you must pass the RBC Part – administered by PSI – to confirm that you have attained at least a minimum level of knowledge regarding the principles, practices, statutes and regulations on Building technology.

The building has TWO category; RBC and CBC(Commercial Building Contractor) – Please refer to NEW VA building contractors exam from 2016


Pre-approval required for the Specialty exam – please refer to TABLE in bottom for the overall process, and below rule;
 Effective 2016, all Specialty test will require pre-approval from DPOR prior to taking the examination. For more information please contact the Board for Contractors Licensing Section directly at (804) 367-8511.   You will get the copy of 3 page ‘Experience Verification‘ form to submit VA DPOR, while in our class.

It has been reported that pre-approval can require anywhere from 4 days to 4 weeks.

 

 

 

There are pre-qualification requirement by VA DPOR (Licensing Board) for your past experience; Class-A (5 years), Class-B (3 years) field trade experience.   For this RBC prequalification, you may include your residential construction, addition, structural works in the Experience Verification form.

Any Responsible Management (Owner, Partners, Associates) or, field employee can take the test (after receiving VA DPOR approval letter/email).  If one of your employees take the test, the DPOR may require your employee’s W-2 for License Application.

The content of this “RBC Specialty exam” contains the function of your field knowledge and familiarity of specifications/regulations.

 

 

Requirements for Obtaining your License;

· The Virginia Contractor Building Technical examination is required for anyone who wants to perform framing work on new construction.
· In addition, an 8 Hour Pre-Licensing Course is required to be completed to become licensed as a contractor.
· Passing this exam is required for Virginia Class A, B, or C license.

This type of contractor includes construction on real property owned, controlled or leased by another person of commercial, industrial, institutional, governmental, residential (single- family, two-family, or multi-family) and accessory use buildings or structures. This license also allows remodeling, repair, improvement or demolition of these buildings & structures.

Reciprocity Agreements/ Continuing Education As of this time, there is no reciprocal licensing. There are no continuing education requirements as of this time.

Exam Details

· The Building Technical exam has 80 questions and a time limit of 160 minutes.
· You must score 70% or more to pass the exam.
· Fees for the exams are $85 and this application fee is separate from your Class-A application.
· Topics on the Examination include layout; excavation; foundations; framing; insulation; ventilation; windows, doors and skylights; exterior; decks, walks and ramps; finishing; masonry; swimming pools and hot tubs; prints, plans, and specifications; safety and employee protection; construction debris; cleanup and disposal.

1. Course Warranty
Total 3 month guarantee period applied – Let’s say, you took our January class – then your registration is valid till March.
Two types of Guarantee policy – a) Keep coming to review the PSI questions in Tysons.  b) Rejoin the course (after your PSI exam result submitted).

2. Refund Policy 
Upon your returning of unopened package in mail, the following percentage of the total package price is refundable:
